Incredible: 1,300 Kaduna Teachers Fail Primary 4 School Test

About 1300 teachers in Kaduna state, North West Nigeria have failed in tests generally set for primary four pupils, Commissioner for Education Alhaji Usman Mohammed has revealed.

“A total of 1,599 teachers selected from across the state were given primary four tests in Mathematics and Basic literacy. Only one of them scored 75 percent, 250 scored between 50 to 75 percent and 1,300 scored below 25 percent,” he said.

Mohammed made the shocking disclosure at an education summit tagged “Education for all is responsibility of all”, held at the General Hassan Usman Katsina House.

According to him, the same examination was conducted for 1,800 primary school pupils but that larger percent of them failed woefully.

“We are not surprised about the performance of the pupils because how can they know it, when their teachers don’t know it,” he added.

Goldie's Cause of Death Revealed

An autopsy on late Nigerian pop star, Goldie Harvey, has revealed that the musician died of ‘hypertensive heart disease’ which triggered ’ intracerebellar haemorrhage.’
The autopsy, done on February 19, was signed by Dr. O.O Oyewole of the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, according to a report on a celebrity blog.
These revelation has put paid to speculations that the musician died of doping complications, a suggestion her widower, Andrew Harvey, quickly dismissed.
Some newspapers and websites had reported that the late musician was a victim of doping gone awry.
Lagos-based evening tabloid, P.M. NEWS, had quoted  sources close to the music star as saying Goldie had been into drug for sometime  and that there were complications this time around.
But in a post on his Facebook page, Mr. Harvey said the  musician was never into drug for all the years he knew her.
“Goldie never used drugs in the last 10 years I knew her and I was as close as you could get,” he said.
The musician, who was a contestant at the last Big Brother Africa reality show passed away at Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos on February 14.
She reportedly returned from the U.S. the previous day before suddenly falling ill and taken to the hospital where she died.

Goldie's last Video with Husband

More shocking and surprising evidence continue to surface online, days after the untimely passage of Nigerian Pop Star, Goldie.

One of such is the appearance of a video that sees the late singer and alleged husband, Andrew Harvey, singing with and for each other.

Additional information about the clip which was recorded 8 months ago, prior to Goldie’s entrant into the Big Brother House, shows that the clip was designed to promote her entrant into the reality show, even though no one had an inkling of its existence.

While the origin, source or individual(s) making the video public is still unknown, it is a pointer to the fact that the Ekiti State born singer, may indeed have been married what with the appearance of a certain Ifeoma Harvey, who claims that Harvey was originally married to her before Goldie came into the picture.

Also, the fact that she spent Christmas with Harvey (she shared photographs of her vacationing in Malaysia in December without a husband in the picture on Twitter) in far away Malaysia where he is based in December and bore his name till death leaves little or nothing to the imagination.

As the shocking news of the death of singer, Goldie Harvey begins to sink in, her Record Label, Kennis Music has officially confirmed our fears.

Statement from the CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe.
“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.
We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.”

Keshi Withdraws Resignation

Stephen Keshi will remain as head coach of Nigeria after the intervention of Nigeria's  sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi in his disagreement with the football federation.

Keshi's row with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led to the 51-year-old coach announcing on South African radio, Metro FM, on Monday that he told federation he will no longer continue as the Super Eagles' head coach.

But the sports minister, who also chairs the Nigerian National Sports Commission (NSC), prevailed on the former Mali and Togo coach to withdraw his resignation.

"He has agreed to withdraw his resignation after a meeting with the sports minister. So he will remain as the coach of the Super Eagles," supersport.com was informed.
"But what Keshi and the minister discussed I really don't know though I'm sure Keshi must have been given some assurances by the minister concerning his complaints."

Pope Benedict XVI to Resign as Pope, Feb 28

The Vatican has announced that Pope Benedict XVI  will resign on Feb. 28 setting the stage for the election of a new pope by March 2013.
The 85 year old pontiff released a statement today saying he was too old to carry on his papal duties.
Full text of Pope's declaration
Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering.

However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.
Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

John Yusuf: is the Judiciary Really the Hope of the Common Man? by Gabriel Nwambu

A serving minister in the Chinese government was beheaded for stealing a few coins on the 20th of january,2013,  an Abeokuta magistrate court convicted Adesina Mustapha, aged 49 at the ita- ika area of Abeokuta to 2 years imprisonment for stealing vegetable worth 5,000 naira and 10,000 naira was given as option of fine, that is,100% of the value of vegetable stolen.
Now every lawyer upon graduation from law school is placed on oath; to discharge his or her functions judiciously and judicially.
The former Assistant Director in charge of Police Pension, John Yusuf stole 23.3 billion naira and was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with 750,000 naira as option of fine.

For an individual who spends 100,000 naira every day, then it will take him 80 years to spend 1 billion.  then for 23.3 billion, you can work that out, perhaps he needs to live longer than the biblical Methuselah.
We are also conscious of the fact that a whole lot of persons who have served our dear nation diligently without being paid their gratuities/entitlements, let alone their pensions, some even die in the pursuit of this entitlements, in other words, the refusal of John Yusuf to pay these persons their pension has been instrumental to these deaths.
Others become destitute as the case may be. in other words, murder of these retirees must be  included as a count charge for John and his cronies.

James Ibori was discharged and acquitted by a judge in Nigeria but he was found guilty of the same offence in London where he is currently serving his jail term, the judge who presided over this matter, discharged and acquitted Ibori is still moving about in Nigeria free and without remorse of any sort whatsoever.
Sadly enough, the entire world is watching Nigeria where the rich maneuver the law with impunity, thereby encouraging public servants to keep stealing since the penalties for such offence is not punitive to act as a deterrent to future and intending offenders.
The world is watching Nigeria in a shameless display of arrant porosity in our judicial system, the entire world sees Nigeria as a most unserious minded nation where anything goes holding herself down with cyclical poverty unleashed by the rich against the defenseless poor.

Sequel to the out-cry of Nigerians, the anti graft agency (EFCC) decided to re-arrest John Yusuf and re-arraign him on fresh charges which include; non declaration of assets and operating a fixed deposit account worth 250 million naira.
Some questions quickly come to mind: why did the EFCC not charge John Yusuf with these offences originally?  Is it that the EFCC suddenly got  to know about these fresh charges following the outcry of the masses?
Who is indeed fooling who?  Could it be that the Nigerian Nation is made up of greedy people? Even if this is the case,  we must fix it, irrespective of the number of John Yusufs and shameless judges, we remain resolute to fighting this seemingly unending war  against corruption.

Gabriel Nwambu is the Executive Director of  Global centre for conscious living against corruption (GLOCCOLAC).

Nigeria's Finance Minister, Okonjo Iweala Targeted in a Letter Bomb Attack

A tragic Monday in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja was averted at the premises of the Nigerian Postal Service located at Area 10, when a suspicious parcel believed to be containing Improvised Explosive Device was diffused.

The parcel according to an eyewitness was said to have been brought in on Saturday for posting and addressed to the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, but the suspicious nature of the parcel prompted the postal personnel on duty to alert the police anti bomb squad who later diffused it Monday morning.

Officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service and the Police Anti Bomb Squad arrived the premises at about 11:45 am to screen for possible discovery of other parcels, shortly after diffusing the initial one.

However, the Postmaster General, Ibrahim Baba Mori told journalists that someone deposited the parcel near a vendor stand outside NIPOST premises and said he was coming back, but never showed up.

He said at that instance, the vendor alerted the post office authorities, who in turn invited the security agencies to inspect the package.
