20 Boko Haram Suspects Killed In Borno Military Barracks Attack

Twenty suspected Boko Haram militants were killed Sunday morning during an attack on a Military Barracks in Monguno, Borno State.

A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, the Joint Task Force (JTF) spokesman, said the attack took place at about 5 am in the village, which is in Monguno Local Government Area.

Monguno is about 200 kilometers, or a two-hour drive away, from Maiduguri.
The spokesman said the attack was repelled by the FOB’s and JTF troops on the outskirt of the barracks.

In addition to the death of the sect members, three four-wheel vehicles and eight motor cycles used by the terrorists were destroyed.

According to the spokesman, the JTF also recovered seven AK47 rifles; 10 Rocket Propelled Grenades; two RPG tubes; a large quantity of assorted ammunition; and eight assorted magazines.

The spokesman also announced the arrest, in another incident, of two “high profile Boko Haram Commanders” responsible for the explosions in Maiduguri on 28 February.  He said the arrests followed a special operation conducted by the JTF upon receipt of intelligence.  The explosions took place during a meeting of some State Governors in the State.

The suspects are undergoing interrogation.
