President Jonathan Sets up Amnesty Committee for Boko Haram
President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday inaugurated a committee to consider the need or otherwise of granting amnesty to members of the fundamentalist Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Reports say the committee, was set up during a meeting the President held with security chiefs in Nigeria's capital Abuja.
The names of members of the committee are yet to be made public and they have two weeks to prepare and submit a report.
They are also expected to work with the office of the National Security Adviser.
It will be recalled that Nigeria's Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, had on Wednesday said President Jonathan was seriously considering granting pardon to members of the violent sect who have killed over a thousand innocent Nigerians.
