INEC Registers All Progressives Congress (APC)



The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the application by three political parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) – to merge
into one, to be known as the All Progressives Congress.
 
On considering the application, the Commission found that the applicant-parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger, and has accordingly granted their request.
 
Consequently, the Commission has approved the withdrawal of the individual certificates of the applicant-parties, and the issuance of a single certificate to the All Progressives Congress. 

34 Nigerian Senators Tabled no Bill in 2 years

Halfway into the tenure of the Senate, 34 senators have not sponsored any bill since coming to office, according to official records released by the Senate.

Multiple Explosions Rock Kano





The so called ceasefire recently initiated between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Boko haram sect seems to have been shattered after renewed attacks in parts of Northern Nigeria, the latest taking place in Kano yesterday.

Reports say at least 3 explosions and sporadic gunshots rocked the Sabon-Gari area of Kano metropolis in what appears to be a terrorist attack that targeted a  relaxation spot  and recreational centre popular for its drinks, food, snooker and table tennis.

An eyewitness told an online news medium that he counted at least 8 dead bodies, while several persons were wounded.
 

Reports salso say that the explosions were heard along Enugu Road and New Road, near the International Hotel.

Spokesman of the joint military task force (JTF) Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha confirmed the explosion , but said details would be made available to reporters “at an appropriate time.”

Police Identify Dead Woman in Lagos Hotel Room




 
The Police in Lagos have identified the married woman whose corpse was discovered inside a hotel room in Igando area of Lagos, weekend, as Glory Abbey.
The deceased, as gathered, was taken to the hotel located on 11, Otunba Oladokun Street by Lanre bus-stop by a young man whose identity was yet to be ascertained at press time.

Ifeanyi Ubah Gets Court Injunction Against His Arrest on Fuel Subsidy Fraud

January 2012, Nigerians marched to the streets in what analysts have described as one of the biggest anti government protests ever witnessed in the country, their anger was  against the planned withdrawal of fuel subsidy.

One of the demands put forward by the protesters was the prosecution of oil marketers who in collusion with some government officials defrauded the nation in the name of fuel importation.
