President Jonathan Congratulates Aregbesola over Election Victory

In a show of goodwill, President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the Governor elect of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola  on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

A statement signed by the President's senior special adviser on media and publicity, Reuben Abati said the election reaffirmed his commitment to free, fair and peaceful conduct of the election.

The president commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and national security agencies for ensuring that the elections were free, fair, credible and peaceful in keeping with the avowed commitment of his administration.

President Jonathan also applauded the people of Osun State for going out in large numbers in all the local government areas of the state to peacefully and freely exercise their democratic right.

“The outcome of the election has also given the lie to the false, unfair and uncharitable allegations that measures put in place by the federal government for the Ekiti and Osun State elections were partisan and designed to achieve a favourable outcome for his party,” the statement said.

Mr. Jonathan said he will continue to work with Governor. Aregbesola in his second term to develop Osun State, and wished the governor continued good health and a successful second term in office.
