We will Impeach Saraki and Ekweremadu on Tuesday-Senator Marafa

The crisis in the All Progressives Congress APC led National Assembly seems to have taken a new twist as a lawmaker loyal to Ahmad Lawan, the APC preferred candidate for the position of Senate President has insisted that Senate President Bukola Saraki and his peoples Democratic Party PDP Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu will be impeached at the resumption of plenary on the 28th of July.
Senator Kabiru Marafa who revealed the news of the impeachment plot to newsmen added that Saraki and Ekweremadu were occupying illegal offices and would soon be swept out.
Marafa in an exclusive interview with Post Nigeria had lamented that the clandestine alteration of the Senate standing order which was used in the election of Saraki and Ekweremadu was carried out and criminally smuggled in by fifth columnists in a deliberate attempt to sabotage the activities of the President, Muhammadu Buhari in order to slow down governance.
Marafa who first raised this on the floor of the House just a day after the inauguration of the 8th Senate pointed that he was actively part of the 7th Senate and at no point did the amendment of the Senate standing order surface on the floor of the house as stated in Order 110.
He cited Order 110 and 3 (e1), “Any Senator desiring to amend any part of the rule shall give reason and write to the President of the Senate after which the process of amending the relevant section will be done.”
Speaking with journalists during an interactive session Marafa disclosed ‘‘in my opinion, corruption does not stop at stealing money alone. The standing order was forged.
“There was no record of amending the standing order in the Seventh Senate, I was an active member of the Seventh Senate and there was no record of any amendments. Hence, the action must be duly investigated to know who did what and why?”
On the basis of Marafa’s claims, Senator Suleiman Othoman Hunkuyi had approached the Police calling for their intervention on the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Order which prompted them to storm the National Assembly to obtain information from relevant officials and lawmakers.
Senator Hunkuyi told the Police that the “So called new Standing Order purports to allow for secret instead of the open ballot system that has been prevalent in all Senate elections as permitted by the extant rules.
“Who is Senate leadership? There is nothing like that in the 8th Senate. What you have is a group of persons occupying those offices against the rules of the Senate and the Nigerian Nation!” He told Journalists.
The Senate is expected to name the various committees next week with their membership, after which it will start full legislative business, having been on a self-imposed recess.
