Plot to Bomb Borno Market Foiled

An attempt by a suicide bomber to bomb the Rumirgo Market in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State Saturday morning was thwarted by a gallant vigilante group member, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Sani Usman, has said.

Mr. Usman, a colonel, said in a statement that the suspected suicide bomber heading to Rumirgo market was accosted by a vigilant and security conscious vigilante.
“In the process of interrogation, the suspected terrorist blew himself off and died on the spot,” Mr. Sani said.
He added, “The vigilante member sustained injuries and has been rushed to hospital for medical treatment by troops.
“The situation is under control as people go about their normal businesses. The Nigerian Troops have has been placed on maximum alert to forestall further attack.”
The Army spokesperson urged the Nigerian “public to continue to be more vigilant and security conscious”.
No one has taken responsibility for the attempted attack, but the extremist Boko Haram sect has carried out series of suicide attacks in locations in the north of Nigeria.
