The Speaker of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West Africa States, ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has commiserated with the government and people of France over the terrorist attacks in Paris over the weekend, describing it as a brazen savagery against humanity.
Senator Ekweremadu who expressed deep pain over the incidents, however insisted that mankind would never surrender to the cruelty of a few people.
He said: “The Paris attacks came as another act of brazen savagery against humanity. This is certainly not a loss to France alone, but to humanity in its entirety. The Parliament received the news with sadness, especially when it is recalled that France has played remarkable role in the war against terrorism and insurgency in the sub-region. Their exploits in Mali cannot be easily forgotten. Unfortunately, when you fight terrorism, terrorism also fights back.
“But whatever be the case, the majority of humanity who are good and peace-loving will never surrender to a few no matter the level of their brutality. They will never bomb the world to submission. The world will be safer if mankind continues to wage a concerted war on the merchants of death and enemies of peace”.
The Senator who also doubles as the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate prayed for peaceful repose of the dead and comfort for the survivors.
“On behalf of the Community Parliament, I send heartfelt condolences”, he added.
