According to a report in Spain, there were three reasons why the former Chelsea manager turned down the chance to replace Rafa Benitez.
Real Madrid were in talks with Jose Mourinho about replacing Rafa Benitez but the former Chelsea boss would not return because of his poor relationship with some of the club’s key players, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos.
El Pais report that Madrid had contacted Mourinho twice in December - one week before he was sacked by Chelsea and another prior to Christmas.
But Mourinho rejected the chance to return to the Spanish capital because he did not want to take the job midway through the season.
The report also claims that Mourinho is still holding out for an offer from Manchester United next summer, while Ronaldo, Ramos, Pepe, Dani Carvajal, Marcelo and Karim Benzema are all unhappy with the prospect of linking back up with the 52-year-old.
