Dasuki Sues FG at ECOWAS court, demands N500m in damages


Former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), yesterday sued the Federal Government at the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) seeking his freedom from security forces after he was granted bail by two separate high courts.

He is asking for N500, 000, 000.00 million only as compensatory damages against the Federal Government for violating his human rights as guaranteed and protected by the Constitution.
A date has not been fixed for the hearing of his originating application, but the former security chief is seeking a declaration of the court that his continued detention in defiance of orders for his bail granted by courts of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria is illegal .
He wants a declaration by the court that his continued detention as unlawful, arbitrary and egregious violation of the applicant’s fundamental human rights as guaranteed by Sections 34, 35 and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended), Articles 5, 6 and 12 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act Cap D9 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 amongst other statutes.
