Two brothers named as masterminds behind Brussels terror attack

Brothers Khalid and Brahim El Bakraoui have been named in local media as the suicide bombers who killed at least 11 people and injured dozens more when they detonated explosives in the busy departures hall of Brussels Zaventem Airport on Tuesday morning.
Belgian public broadcaster RTBF said police sources had confirmed the names of the two men, who were previously known to local police, the BBC reports.

A third would-be bomber is said to have escaped the airport without detonating his explosives-packed suitcase. Authorities are hunting the man, named as Najim Laachraoui by local newspaper DH, according to Reuters. Laachraoui was wanted by police before Tuesday and has been named as a bomb maker and an accomplice of Salah Abdeslam.
Tuesday’s attacks came after Belgian police arrested Abdeslam, a key suspect in the Paris terror attacks in November. Police have said they found a fingerprint of Abdelslam at an apartment rented by Khalid El Bakraoui.
An image from surveillance footage showed the three men pushing trollies at the airport on Tuesday. Two of the men — thought to be the deceased El Bakraoui brothers — are each wearing a single glove on their left hand, which may have been
concealing detonators.
The two blasts at the Brussels airport were shortly followed by another deadly blast on a train that was pulling into the Maelbeek Metro station, which is close to the European Union’s headquarters in Brussels. The latest reports estimate 20 people were killed in that explosion. A security official said the overall death toll had risen to 34, with more than 100 wounded.
