Police block Ali Modu Sheriff from taking over PDP secretariat

The sacked national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has been stopped by men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from gaining entry into the party's national secretariat, Abuja.
Daily Trust newspaper reports that Sheriff, who arrived at the secretariat with his convoy this morning to continue in office as national chairman even with the national caretaker committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, in place, was stopped by heavily armed policemen.

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff's  attempt to get re-elected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman was truncated at the party's national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state last month,
The Port-Harcourt convention had dissolved Sheriff-led PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and constituted a caretaker committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi which had already resumed its official assignment.
Sheriff had hurriedly announced the postponement of the Port-Harcourt convention on the day it was scheduled to hold, a move seen as an attempt to stop the PDP stakeholders' plot to stop his re-election.
