The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has again postponed the conduct of the rerun legislative elections in Rivers state.
In a letter signed by the Commission secretary, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, INEC stated that political players in Rivers and their supporters were yet to refrain from partaking in violence, which it noted informed the earlier postponement of the election.
The statement read in part: “As a responsible organisation and conscious of the violence which accompanied previous elections in March as well as developments in the state since then the Commission cannot ignore credible reports.
“In the circumstance therefore, it is compelled to further postpone the rerun legislative elections in Rivers state as one of the principal conditions earlier stipulated for the rerun election has regrettably not been met.”
