Senate President Bukola Saraki says the expected signing into law of the public procurement Bill will ensure that local manufacturers, small and medium scale enterprises tap into the over two trillion naira available in government procurement and contracts.
Saraki stated this in Abuja at the opening of the fourth edition of the made in Aba trade fair where local manufacturers of footwears, bags, clothing and other household items displayed their products to the public.
The Senate President who was represented by the deputy Senate leader, Bala Ibn N’Allah said his office has embarked on a made in Nigeria challenge to showcase local innovations to international investors.
In his remarks, Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu said about one million made in Aba items such as shoes, bags and leather works are exported from Aba on a weekly basis to other parts of the world.
He urged the federal government to provide an enabling environment for small and medium scale businesses especially in the area of product registration and infrastructure development.
The made in Aba trade fair runs from 6th to the 10th of March 2017 in Abuja.
