The Senate has issued an ultimatum to the Comptroller General of Customs, Colonel Hamed Ali retired to appear before it in plenary on Wednesday 15th of March in full Customs uniform or risk a motion for his sack.
The latest invitation follows a motion by Senator Dino Melaye who lamented that the Customs boss has continually disrespected his office by refusing to put on the appropriate uniform of the organization.
Melaye also said the invitation is necessary to clear the air on a news paper report which stated that Customs has decided to ignore a resolution of the Senate which called for the suspension of a proposed check on vehicles in the country to ensure correct payment of duties.
In their various comments, lawmakers condemned what they described as the incompetence and arrogance of the Customs boss adding that he should be called to order, to save innocent Nigerians, the agony of paying for the corruption in the Customs Service.
Ruling on the motion, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who presided over plenary said the Senate as an institution will not tolerate impunity by heads of agencies and parastatals of government.
