Saraki to IDPs: Government Will Not Forget You...Visits Camp In Abuja

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in some parts of the country that government will continue work to ensure their security, social and economic wellbeing as well as safe return to their homesteads. 

Saraki who said the government will not forget the displaced persons was speaking when he led a Senate delegation on a visit to the IDP camp at Kuchigoro, near the Games Village, Abuja, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu, in Abuja.

Raid: Ekweremadu Commends Arraignment of Whistle Blower, Calls for Further Investigation

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has commended the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Idris Kpotun, on the prosecution of one of the false whistle blowers, whom police alleged misled them into raiding his official guest house in Abuja on Friday, May 26.

Reacting to the arraignment of the suspect, Ahmed Echodo, before an Upper Area Court, Gudu, Abuja, on Tuesday, Ekweremadu said such would serve as a lesson to other false whistle blowers and agencies of government.

Abubakar Momoh: An Irreplaceable Loss - NLC


The sudden death of Professor Abubakar Momoh, Director General of the National Electoral Institute has been described as a big blow to the Labour Movement and an irreplaceable loss.

A statement released by the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Peter Ozo-Eson said; "in Professor Momoh, we have lost a true friend and an irrepressible ally.
"He was an intellectual titan, an uncommon progressive, a committed Unionist and a core nationalist.

FAAN Refutes Recruitment Rumours

The Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has refuted an online rumour going round that the Authority is presently recruiting into her staff fold.

The  Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Yakubu Henrietta, who dispelled the rumour today in Lagos advised members of the public to beware of fraudsters, who pose as staff of the Authority, with the intention of duping innocent applicants.

Don’t Be Provoked Into Armed Struggle, Ekweremadu Admonishes Ndigbo

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has urged Ndigbo not to allow themselves to be provoked into any armed struggle, but to continue to sustain peaceful agitation for equity and justice within the Nigerian commonwealth.
 
He reiterated that the minimum Ndigbo demands from Nigeria was the restructuring of the Nigerian federation to enable them enjoy equity and actualise their potentials.

Ekweremadu Commends FG for 27km Road Project

The Deputy of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has commended the Federal Government for its efforts at building critical road infrastructure to boost agriculture and economic diversification in the country.

Ekweremadu stated this at the weekend when he inspected the ongoing construction of the 27-kilometre Nenwe-Nomeh-Mburumbu-Nara Road, with a spur to Oduma.

Ekweremadu said lack of access roads to evacuate agricultural products had remained a huge setback for agriculture in the rural communities across the country, thereby leading to wastage, while also making farming appear an unprofitable ventures to many.

Senate To Partner US Chamber of Commerce on ICT For Job Creation

The Senate has pledged its preparedness to work with the US Chamber of Commerce African Business Centre to develop the nation's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector towards diversifying the nation's economy and creating jobs.

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki made the pledge in Abuja when the Group led by Ms. Leila Ndiaye visited him ahead of the launch of the ICT Working Group in Abuja.

Saraki, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu, thanked the US Chamber for their interest in working together with relevant agencies to develop Nigeria's ICT sector.

Senate To Probe Bureau for Public Procurement


Despite the push by the current administration to rid the country of corruption, lawmakers in the Senate have insisted that the effort will yield no tangible result until there is a total overhaul of the public procurement system in the country which the lawmakers believe is the root cause of corruption in Nigeria.

The Senate has therefore mandated its committee on public procurement to begin an investigation into what they described as monumental corruption in the Bureau of Public Procurement BPP, an Agency which was set up by law to monitor the procurement of contracts.

Saraki to FG: Set Up Review Panel on Workers' Demands

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has advised the Federal Government to immediately constitute a panel consisting of stakeholders to work on demands of Nigerian workers for increased wages and arrears of pension, promotion and allowances.

Saraki while speaking with newsmen at the Eagles Square, Abuja, venue of the 2017 May Day celebration, said if the workers had allowed the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, to address them, he would have announced some plans that the government had for the workers.

Ekweremadu Reiterates Call for N50,000 Minimum Wage

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has reiterated his call for the implementation of N50,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Ekweremadu stated this in his goodwill message to workers on May Day.

He said the current N18,000 minimum wage was no longer realistic given the hyperinflation in the country, which he said had made it difficult for overwhelming majority of Nigerian workers to afford the basic needs of life.
